In our latest episode, Colton is spending time with Birdville ISD’s Athletic Director Chris Feris. Coach Feris was awarded Texas High School Athletic Directors Association Director of the year and has been with Birdville since 2013.
Key Takeaways for this week’s podcast:
- Each individual kid cannot be coached the same
- Be present with your students and athletes
- Focus on developing both the player and the athlete through personal interactions with each player.
Coach shares about his time playing and coaching at Rice and how that has helped shape him into the Coach and AD he is today. Coach also shares the importance him and his coaches place on continually building up and encouraging each athlete to excel in academics.
Coach also shares a quotes he gives to his coaches that really rings true to him and his program. “There’s nobody that can ever keep you from doing the best you can.” Lou Holtz
Coach ends the podcast discussing the idea of choice and how as a coach, you made the decision to be about kids and making a difference. You can always learn from your athletes, and you can always help someone learn. It is your job to be a facilitator and give your athletes the tools they need to be successful both on and off the field.
